PROTOTYPING
The QuakeCraft challenge progresses through four prototyping phases. Each iteration improving on the last, until the final shake table test.
PROTOTYPE 1:
Tallest tower
- Build the tallest tower on the shake table using sticks and 3D printed connectors.
- Measure height.
- Calculate cost.
- Test and rate stability.
PROTOTYPE 2:
Tiny House
Design: Standard
- Design a two level tiny house that has space for a couple to live in.
- Consider wall panels as part of the structure.
- Review window/door placement sheets.
- Record quantity of material to determine cost.
- Test and rate structural integrity.
PROTOTYPE 3:
Tiny House
Design: Custom
- Consider further improvements including custom cut panels.
- Use the drafting paper to draw and order panels for laser-cutting.
- Consider the ability to replace parts after a disaster.
- Consider other life line supports in your build.
- Test and rate structural integrity.
PROTOTYPE 4:
Final Build
- Prepare your design for professional testing at the University of Canterbury.
- Fabrication of final parts .
- Complete any documentation.
- Check performance against assessment sheet.
