PROTOTYPING

The QuakeCraft challenge progresses through four prototyping phases. Each iteration improving on the last, until the final shake table test. 

 

PROTOTYPE 1:
Tallest tower

  • Build the tallest tower on the shake table using sticks and 3D printed connectors.
  • Measure height.
  • Calculate cost.
  • Test and rate stability.
 

PROTOTYPE 2:
Tiny House
Design: Standard

  • Design a two level tiny house that has space for a couple to live in.
  • Consider wall panels as part of the structure.
  • Review window/door placement sheets.
  • Record quantity of material to determine cost.
  • Test and rate structural integrity.
 

PROTOTYPE 3:
Tiny House
Design: Custom

  • Consider further improvements including custom cut panels.
  • Use the drafting paper to draw and order panels for laser-cutting.
  • Consider the ability to replace parts after a disaster.
  •  Consider other life line supports in your build.
  • Test and rate structural integrity.
 

PROTOTYPE 4:
Final Build

  • Prepare your design for professional testing at the University of Canterbury.
  • Fabrication of final parts .
  • Complete any documentation.
  • Check performance against assessment sheet.
